Popular Australian Fashion designer, Collette, whose full name is Collette Mary Ann Dinnigan was born on September 24 1965 in South Africa. She was raised in New Zealand.
Collette studied a fashion design course at Wellington Polytechnic because of her love for fashion designing. Upon graduation, she moved to Sydney, where she worked in the costume department at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
She went on to launch a dry-clean only lingerie collection in 1990. Collette also became the first Australian to launch a ready-to-wear collection, in Paris in 1995.
In 1996, she was invited by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture to show on the prestigious Paris Fashion Week schedule. She was later invited to become an executive board member of the same organization in 2008. Collette also became the Special Guest Editor for Vogue Living’s ‘Italian’ issue in 2017.
Collette Dinnigan is one of the most celebrated fashion designers in Australia, with many awards in her name.
She won the Australian Designer of the Year Awards in 1996, the Louis Vuitton’s Business Award in 1997, and received the Award for Excellence from Fashion Group International in 1998. In the same 1998, she was appointed Chairperson of the New South Wales Small Business Development Corporation, having previously held the position of an advisor to the South Australian Wool Board.
She was awarded an Order of Australia in 2017 for her amazing achievements.
Collette is a perfect example of how successful a person can become when they combine passion with hard work.
